LIBKEY NOMAD: YOUR PERSONAL LIBRARY ASSISTANT

The IMechE library is excited to offer all members free access to the LibKey Nomad++ browser plugin, which helps you easily connect to full text content while you are searching online.

Nomad activates on sites such as Google Scholar, Wikipedia, PubMed, and publisher websites to let you know if you can skip the paywall and access the article via the IMechE library instead – it’s like having a personal library assistant wherever you go!

Find out more and install Nomad for free.

We are trialling an upgrade to our LibKey Nomad subscription, called LibKey Nomad++, so the more that Nomad is installed, the more able we are to keep it for our users. Find out more about how Nomad works, and what is included in the upgrade below.

How does it work?

Have you ever been frustrated by a paywall on a publisher website? Or irritated by the number of clicks to check for full text in PubMed?  LibKey Nomad will instantly check for full text availability from the library and present you with the single best and fastest link to download the PDF, view the article, or request it from the library if it is not immediately available.

The LibKey Nomad button pops up at the bottom left of your screen to let you know you can download the article for free from the library.

Nomad also checks for Open Access content, so even if the IMechE library hasn’t subscribed to that particular journal, you can still read it because it is available to everyone.

Designed to protect your privacy

Nomad is a safe, secure, and privacy-protecting browser plugin that is provided to you free of charge by your library. It is designed to protect your privacy – it does not need a user account, and it does not store your credentials. It activates only on selected scholarly research websites.

You can also use LibKey Nomad to switch between your libraries – so if you belong to another institution that provides LibKey Nomad (like a university) you can click on the icon in your browser extension bar to select another library.

What is included in the upgrade?

We are trialling an upgrade to our LibKey Nomad subscription, called LibKey Nomad ++. It still does everything described above, but it also allows the library team to provide helpful messages and reminders to our users who have downloaded Nomad.

For example, if you start your research session by directly going to ScienceDirect, instead of via the IMechE Library Search, a message will appear to remind you to login to the library, so that you have access to all of our content on the ScienceDirect website.
