Our specialist library and archive allows you to explore unique collections, providing both historical and current information and enquiry services. Based at 1 Birdcage Walk we offer a specialist book and journal library, as well as free access to our online membership records 1847-1930 and our archives (archive by appointment).
The archive charts the history of the Institution and of mechanical engineering. Railway engineering, manufacturing, power plant development and automobile development are particularly well represented through personal and company papers. A selection of some of our most iconic archive pieces is available on our Virtual Archive. Images can be found on our Picture Gallery. Details of what we hold can be found on our catalogue.
The library holds a collection of physical and electronic resources specializing in mechanical engineering. Members can view digital content online via Virtual Library. Everyone is welcome to use our collections by visiting us.
